Mercari is a marketplace to help people sell and buy anything online. However, our biggest problem was the friction when shipping the item that happens after sell. Our goal was to drastically improve the process by integrating QR code to remove the hassle for printing the shipping labels.

We gradually saw people adapting the QR code overtime and eventually had a huge impact on shipping experience. As an evidence, we saw tons of users mentioning on Reddit, Youtube and Facebook.

Launching the feature

We wanted to prompt full screen modal when you are about to fill in the shipping details so that every sellers can learn about the new release and utilize the QR coder for your next shipping.

When item get's sold

When item get's sold, you will require to ship the item at the nearest post office. We wanted to prioritize QR code shipping in the order status screen as it will be the primary method. We also enabled users to issue shipping label just incase they need.
At the post office, all you need to do is show your QR code at the counter and they will print the label for you. We also decided to reserve their code just incase user accidently confirmed their shipping without showing the QR code.

Notifying our users

Notifying users is vital process for any feature launch. We decided to send out pineed notification so that users don't easily dismiss or miss the update.
